If you’re looking for a ridiculously quick pasta dinner for frantic evenings, this 4 ingredient pea and cream cheese pasta is for you!
It’s creamy, cheesy, comforting and ready in about 5 minutes with the absolute minimum of effort. Honestly, it’s one of those dinners that feels almost too easy to count as cooking… and yet it’s SO good.
This is exactly the kind of pasta I keep in my back pocket for busy weekdays. You know the sort: everyone’s hungry and you cannot face chopping seventeen things. Fresh pasta, frozen peas and cream cheese come to the rescue.
The cream cheese melts into a silky, lightly tangy sauce, the peas add sweetness and colour, and the onion gives just enough bite and flavour to stop it feeling too plain. It’s a proper quick comfort food dinner and, importantly, it tastes far better than a ready meal!
I have a handful of recipes like this that I turn to again and again – speedy pasta dinners made with fresh pasta that are ready in the time it takes for the pasta to cook. This one is one of the simplest of the lot, which is probably why I love it so much.
And yes, it only uses 4 ingredients for the main event. A tiny miracle on a busy night!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
There are lots of quick pasta recipes out there, but this one earns its place because it is:
- Ready in 5 minutes
- Made with just 4 main ingredients
- Creamy and comforting without needing a long-simmered sauce
- Budget-friendly and made from easy fridge and freezer staples
- Ideal for busy weeknights, lazy lunches or low-energy cooking days
- Easy to adapt with herbs, extra vegetables or a bit of protein
It’s also one of those useful recipes that proves you do not need loads of ingredients to make a dinner that feels satisfying.

Why This Pasta Works
Simple recipes really have to pull their weight, and this one does.
The reason it works so well is all about balance.
The cream cheese gives you richness and a velvety sauce almost instantly. The peas bring sweetness, freshness and a lovely pop of colour. The onion adds texture and just enough savoury flavour to stop the dish feeling flat. Then the pasta brings everything together into a quick, creamy bowl of comfort.
It’s also a very practical recipe. Frozen peas cook in a flash, fresh pasta takes minutes, and cream cheese melts quickly into a sauce without much effort at all. No faffing around with flour, butter roux or long cooking times. Exactly what you want on a tired Tuesday.
This is also the sort of meal that feels especially useful if you cook regularly for a family, because it’s soft, creamy, mild and easy to like. You can keep it simple as written, or tart it up a bit if you want something more grown-up.

Pea and Cream Cheese Pasta Ingredients, Substitutions and Variations
- Onion – use a large white onion. I like to chop mine into quite large chunks for this recipe. It adds a nice bit of crunch and texture, particularly as we don’t cook it for very long.
- Cream cheese – I used plain cream cheese but you could use one flavoured with garlic and herbs for some extra tastiness.
- Peas – frozen peas are perfect here. If you like, you could add some more frozen veggies, like broccoli or spinach.
- Pasta – use fresh pasta for extra speed. I used radiatori because I like the funky shape, but this recipe will work with any fresh pasta shape.

How to Make Pea and Cream Cheese Pasta
This is a very simple recipe, but there are still a few little things that help it turn out nicely.
1. Cook the pasta
Bring a large pan of water to the boil, salt it well and cook the fresh pasta according to the packet instructions.
Fresh pasta is ideal here because it cooks so quickly – usually around 3–5 minutes.
2. Start the onion
While the pasta cooks, peel and chop the onion and add it to a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat.
3. Make the sauce
Add a splash of water to the pan along with the cream cheese. Stir until the cheese melts into a smooth sauce.
Then add the peas and cook just until they’re heated through.
4. Toss with the pasta
Drain the pasta and add it straight into the sauce. Toss everything together well so the sauce coats the pasta evenly.
Season with salt and pepper, then serve straight away.
Quick, easy, done.
Top Tips
- Use a nonstick pan We don’t use oil here, so it’s important to use a nonstick pan to cook the sauce. Alternatively, you could cook the onions in a tablespoon of olive oil.
- Don’t over cook the peas The peas only need warming through – no more than that. You want them to have bite and keep their fresh green colour.
- Cook extra The leftovers work brilliantly for lunches! You can eat them hot or cold.

Storage and Leftovers
Leftovers keep surprisingly well, which makes this a useful meal prep option too. Store any leftover pasta in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. To reheat, warm gently in a pan or microwave with a splash of water or milk to loosen the sauce. Cream cheese can thicken as it cools, so a little added liquid helps bring it back to life. You can also eat the leftovers cold for lunch if that sort of thing appeals to you.A Few Extra Notes From Me
This is the sort of recipe I think every home cook needs a few versions of: fast, reliable, low-effort dinners that still feel nice to eat. Not every meal has to be a grand event. Sometimes you just need something quick, warm and comforting on the table with minimal fuss, and this absolutely does the job.
I also love that it uses ingredients lots of us already keep around. Frozen peas, a tub of cream cheese, some pasta, an onion. That’s not a complicated shop, and yet you still end up with something creamy and satisfying.
For me, that’s exactly what good weeknight cooking is all about.
