Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius. Prepare a 12 hole muffin tray by filling it with muffin cases.
Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl. Crack in the eggs and beat until combined.
Add the milk, stir well, then fold in the flour. Cut the pear into 1cm cubes and add to the bowl along with the mixed spice. Stir until evenly distributed.
Spoon the batter into the muffin cases. Put in the oven and bake for 25 minutes until risen and golden. Serve warm or cold.

Notes
Check your muffins are cooked by sticking a skewer into one. If it comes out clean, the muffins are cooked. If not, leave them in the oven for 5 more minutes before testing again.
